Straight Gouda (July 9)

I like my life. I can't complain too much about anything. A quarter way through, things have gone pretty good. Sure, I would change a few things here and there, but for the most part things have gone as planned. All in all there isn't too many people that I would like to trade lives with...

...but if you made me pick I would choose John Mayer in a heart beat. I wish I could play the guitar like him, I wish I could write songs like him, and I just want to know what it would be like to be him for one week.

He's one of those guys that you really want to hate even if it's just the fact that every girl loves the guy. But you can't hate him. You just can't. He's just too damn talented. Even Kanye and Jay-Z give the guy props. His cool status was cemented when he appeared on Chappelle's Show. If Dave Chappelle has love for him, who am I to say any different?

I had a chance to see him for the second time in concert on Monday night and the guy can really do no wrong. One thing that I found interesting was that he didn't play My Body is a Wonderland.

Like I said before, this was my second John Mayer concert and both times he didn't play it. I heard that he actually hates playing it even though every female in the audience would immediately remove layers of clothing if he sang one verse of it. I don't think he ever plays it anymore and I have a theory why.

I think the guy only uses it to close the deal in his personal life. I can just picture him with Jennifer Aniston and bringing out the acoustic guitar. He'll start making something up and then just ease into it and then it's all over for any girl. Kind of like what James Van Der Beek did in Rules of Attraction. He probably picks that or Daughters depending what he wants out of the girl. I can just see the thought bubbles in his head, "Oh yeah, works everytime!" Go figure that the guy has dated a good chunk of Maxim's Hot 100 list. The ones that actually deserve to make the list too! (On second thought, maybe I do hate the guy.)

Seriously though, he is an unreal guitar player and appears to actually have a good time on stage. You can't hate on a guy with skills. John Mayer's got skills.

I'm Already Sick of Forrest Griffin as Champ

I get that everyone loves an underdog. People want to see a feel good story. It makes for good entertainment and I told everyone last week how I feel about them. Is it a feel good story though when a guy becomes champ by beating someone like Rampage Jackson?

I don't think so.

Rampage has the kind of personality that can help blow up MMA on a whole new level. He is hilarious and is all about huge slams and knocking people out. I just don't get why so many people love Forrest so much when you have someone like Rampage around.

If you took a survey of the American public and asked them if they would rather watch a fighter who routinely knocks people out or a guy who can "really take a punch", who do you think they would pick? I have no problems with anyone cheering for Rocky to beat Ivan Drago, but this is not in any way like that situation at all. If it's someone going against the Yankees, the Lakers, or Barry Bonds then I am all for the underdog. A hated person or team is asking to be rooted against. Not Rampage though. That just doesn't make any sense to me.

If that wasn't enough for me to be upset that Rampage is no longer champ, it came out that two of the judges gave the first round to Forrest. How could a guy who got dropped win the round? I wouldn't say a fix was in the works but scoring that round in favour of Forrest is an embarrassment to MMA. I wasn't too excited about Forrest winning in the first place and I was even less jacked after hearing about that.

Former Ultimate Fighter winner ends up winning the title in the best division in Mixed Martial Arts. It makes for a nice story. Here is to hoping that the story ends with Rampage knocking him out in the rematch.

Things to Check Out

I know that these guys would never end up doing real play by play, but a guy can dream, right? They say the kind of things that you and your buddies would say while watching a game. They are two guys who podcast for Orlandomagic.com. Once again, this comes courtesy of Awful Announcing.

I'm only posting this for my sister's benefit. I know she occasionally reads this and I hope she finally opens here eyes. I encourage all of you to let Beth Uyeyama know that A-Rod is a d-bag. It's time you knew the truth Beth.

Derek Boogaard runs a camp that teaches kids how to fight. Do parents actually send their kids to this camp? I can't believe this is real. He should probably put the camp on hold for a few years and take a couple of power skating lessons in the summer instead.

I always viewed being a VJ as making a deal with the devil. You'll get a chance to be famous and meet a ton of celebrities for a few years, but then POOF, it's gone! It's kind of all downhill from that point on. If you're lucky you might get a chance to be in a few bad movies or be on an unsuccessful TV show and if you aren't lucky then it is straight to the Surreal World for you. Complex fills you in on what happened to a few of the former female VJs at MTV.
